- Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) – a Government of India enterprise’s ₹400 crore Agriculture Demand Side Management (AgDSM) program in association with Government of Andhra Pradesh
- To replace inefficient agriculture pumps with energy efficient IoT enabled pumps free of cost to farmers with free maintenance for 5 years
Coimbatore, 2nd May 2018: CRI has bagged a Rs.150 crore order from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Government of India Enterprise under the Union Ministry of Power, for implementation of the Agriculture Demand Side Management (AgDSM) program in association with Government of Andhra Pradesh. The AgDSM program is aimed to replace existing inefficient agriculture pumps with BEE five star rated energy efficient pumpsets along with Internet of Things (IoT) enabled smart control panels with estimated energy saving potential of 25 per cent. These pumpsets are provided at free of cost to farmers with free maintenance for five years. The project will cover over 40,000 farmers in Andhra Pradesh.
The order follows by CRI Pumps taking up a pilot project eight years ago in Maharashtra– the only company to do so, initiated by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India to reduce electricity consumption used for irrigation. The average efficiency range of BEE Star rated Energy Efficient Pumpsets is 40 to 50 per cent compared to 20 to 30 per cent of existing pumpsets.
Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. said, “The implementation of AgDSM program is crucial as electricity bills for agricultural pumpsets are being paid by government in the form of subsidy. Currently, over two crore pumpsets are used in agriculture in India consuming 173.2 billion units of electricity per annum. Over five lakh new pumpsets are added each year. Low-cost or free electricity coupled with high inefficiencies contributes to adoption of inefficient and unreliable pumpsets, resulting in massive water wastage and high energy consumption. EESL has taken up the initiative of accelerating the implementation of AgDSM programme in India.” Mr.Kumar further added, Rs.400 crores have been earmarked for the project.
Mr. G. Soundararajan, Vice-Chairman, C.R.I. Group, said, “C.R.I. has always been in the pursuit of trendsetting innovations over the years and the company has evolved to become a total fluid management solutions provider across various sectors. On the outset of the implementation of AgDSM program, he said, “The highly energy efficient pumpsets, equipped with laser welded stainless steel impellers for corrosion resistance are supplied with IoT enabled smart control panels for seamless integration. The IoT enabled pumpsets will help farmers to monitor through their mobile phones; the working condition of the pumps; switch on and off the pumps using their mobile phones any time, from anywhere; monitor power consumption; track performance in real time; and also get message alerts through their mobile phones if anyone tries to steal the pumps. The pumps are also programed to automatically switch off when there is no ground water or stop in power supply. In addition to high levels of energy savings, it will make operating the pumps easier for farmers as well as bring down repair costs. He added “The Electricity Department can also remotely monitor power consumption details, quality of power, running hours and various other parameters.”
Shri Shashi Kant, Regional Manager & Deputy General Manager, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. said “The AgDSM program in Andhra Pradesh in the first phase involves replacement of one lakh old inefficient pumpsets with BEE 5 star rated energy efficient pumpsets along with smart control panels. Over the next few years, 15 lakh inefficient agriculture pumps will be replaced in the State. The program aims to save 349 million units of energy per annum amounting to savings of Rs.139.60 crores per annum for the government. The project duration is 5 years.”
The campaign for energy efficient pumps is backed by the Union Ministry for Power, Government of India.

Coimbatore, Aug 23, Monday: CRI Pumps Private Ltd is been awarded with BEE’s Energy saving First Pilot project ‘Agriculture Demand Side Management’ (Ag DSM), launched at Mangalwedha subdivision of Solapur Circle in Maharashtra. In this pilot Ag DSM project CRI pumps would undertake the responsibility of identifying and replacing 3530 old agricultural pumps with Energy Efficient Star Rated Pump Sets, within a span of next 9 months.
The Central Government of India in association with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in an aim to save power upto 40% has decided to replace the old agricultural pumpsets with pumpsets that are fully energy efficient as per BEE standards. The BEE Star Energy Efficiency Labels have been created to standardize the energy efficiency ratings of different electrical appliances and indicate energy consumption. The BEE Star Labels include a Star Rating System that ranges from One Star – least energy efficient, thus least money saved to Five Stars – most energy efficient, thus most money saved. Under this project the farmers will be provided with Energy Efficient Pump Sets (EEPS) free of cost. Agriculture Implementing Agency (AgIA) shall be responsible for dismantling the existing pump sets, procurement of new EEPS, installation, maintenance and repair/replacement. The Repair & Maintenance for 60 months shall be provided at no cost to the farmers.
Mr.Rajendran, Managing Director, CRI Pumps said “The power crisis in India should be addressed aggressively in the present scenario. Agricultural sector uses over 120 lakh electric pumps, all primarily used for irrigation, consuming 6000 crore kWh of electricity which accounts for 40% of the energy usage. If the 6lakh pump sets used per annum are replaced with fully energy efficient pump sets, it will result in a savings of Rs.2500 crores.”
CRI Pumps Private Ltd has taken the project for a term of five years. CRI Pumps has committed a cumulative energy saving of 36% over the next five years, which would be monitored by a Third party agency appointed by BEE with the approval of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. The name C.R.I. itself encapsulates the company’s ethos: “Commitment, Reliability, Innovation” and it has now become a household name associated with pumps – be it for industries, buildings, waste water, residential, agriculture, mining, oil&gas and civil applications. C.R.I has what it takes – experience, expertise, commitment and a clear vision–to be a precursor of change, an innovator of new technologies and a standard bearer for quality.
CRI has bagged the 1st prize in the Manufactures of BEE Star Labelled appliances (Agriculture pump set) sector by the National Energy Conservation Award from Ministry of Power, Govt. of India for two consecutive years. It exports its products to more than 100 countries and has been awarded the EEPC Export Excellence award 9th time in a row for its export performance.
Mumbai, 20 April 2015: C.R.I. Pumps Private Limited,a reputed global player and India’s fastest growing pump manufacturer, now enters the non-metallic high end pipes segment as part of its rapid diversification strategy. It will manufacture uPVC and CPVC pipes, designed with higher durability to provide an efficient pumping and plumbing system, at its two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Gandhinagar and Hosur.
Gandhinagar in Gujarat that will cater to the western, northern and central markets, and Hosur in Tamil Nadu that will cater to the southern and eastern markets, are expected to commence full-fledged commercial operations soon. The Gandhinagar plant has successfully test-marketed its products with highly encouraging results.
Announcing the launch of the manufacturing facilities, G. Soundararajan, Vice- Chairman of the Rs. 1,300 crore annual global turnover company, said the foray into pipes segment was not an adhoc one, but part of an overall business development strategy arising out of their five-year VISION 2020.
Explaining the rationale behind the entry, he said: “As part of VISION 2020, we have fixed on achieving an annual turnover ofRs. 5,000 crore by the end of 2020. To achieve this, we planned to rapidly diversify and add more products to our existing line. Even in an adverse market situation, C.R.I. has grown around 20% compared to the previous year to achieve the highest growth in the organized Indian pump sector in the financial year 2014-15.”
He added that as part of its diversification process, the first product that the company decided on introducing was pipes. C.R.I., with a clear mission to provide a one-stop fluid management solution, would now shift its focus to becoming a provider of an entire pumping system. The contribution of pipes in the total investment of a pumping system is much higher and even more than double that of the pumpset itself.
According to Mr. Soundararajan, in the initial phase C.R.I.is investing about Rs.120 crore in the pipe business. Funding would be through internal accruals and borrowings from financial institutions.
“CRI has a strong marketing network of 4,000 dealers, and nearly 10,000 retailers. Almost all our counters that sell our pumps also sell pipes. This would be to our great advantage from the marketing angle. In addition, C.R.I. also plans to create new distributor channels for promoting the pipes. C.R.I. is a well recognized brand among plumbers, contractors, builders, EPC companies and installers because of its five decades’ long service to the fluid industry. Most of the pipe consumers also acknowledge C.R.I as a quality player in the pumping industry. With this reputation, we can conveniently achieve our targets and become a notable player in the pipe segment,” the Vice-Chairman added.
From an initial manufacturing capacity of 15,000MTA C.R.I. is planning to expand the capacity in the coming years and with the existing established network target around 10% market share in the years to come.
The outlook for pipes is very promising in India. The CAGR of uPVC and CPVC are estimated to be around 15% and 30% respectively. The estimated market potential in India for non-metallic pipes is expected to be around Rs.21,500 crore. uPVC and CPVC pipes alone would contribute to around Rs.9,000 crore, and it is into this niche the company is now venturing in the initial phase.
uPVC pipes are used as riser (column) pipes, casing pipes, plumbing, sewage and drainage pipes. As column pipes,uPVC pipes are used extensively in place of GI and HDPE Pipes for the pumping of ground water in open wells and bore wells. These pipes possess higher tensile strength, UV and chemical resistance and energy efficiency. Further, the pipes have a longer life of upto 25 years and are light weight, maintenance-free and corrosion-free. uPVC column pipes also aid in extracting clear water from bore wells.
As plumbing, sewage and drainage pipes, uPVC pipes are used mainly for the distribution of potable water and disposal of waste water from residential, commercial buildings, and industries. The pipes are non-toxic and lead-free that makes them safe for potable water. The CPVC pipes are used for hot and cold water applications and also high pressure applications. In addition to this, due to their ability to handle up to a temperature of 200 degree F, the pipes are also used for transportation of chemical and hot corrosive fluids in process industries.
uPVC column pipes are available from 25 mm to 140mm diameter, uPVC casing pipes are available from 115 mm to 300mm diameter, and the uPVC plumbing pipes are available from 15 mm to 100mm diameter, with all accessories like fittings and solvents.
The column pipes are provided with patented Polymer Bonded Thread Sink (PBTS) locking system, another innovation from the C.R.I. R&D team. This unique locking system is used as a pipe coupler system to firmly couple the pipes.
The company expects the demand for plumbing, sewage and drainage pipes to increase manifold as the construction and infrastructure industry was deemed to take a giant leap, thanks to the Central Government’s policy initiatives and urban development programmes. An increase in demand for these pipes is anticipated with a quantum jump in the housing sector.
The company hopes that in urban areas these durable and corrosion resistant pipes would come as a solution where water is very hard and people have to frequently spend on steel pipes that rust and corrode quickly.
In the rural sector, the pipes are expected to come as a welcome change to agriculturists, because in the Indian scenario the cultivable area under irrigation is estimated to increase from the present 40 %
Rapid diversification strategy saw C.R.I. Pumps (P) Limited, a global force in the pump industry, entering into high value product of non-metallic plastic pipe segment early last year. The operations began with the manufacture of uPVC and CPVC pipes designed with higher durability to provide an efficient pumping and plumbing system at the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This unit presently caters to the western, northern and central Indian markets and the response so far has been overwhelming. Currently Gandhinagar, Gujarat plant is operating to full capacity.
Now, C.R.I. has opened its second Pipe manufacturing plant at Hosur, Tamilnadu. This new plant at Hosur offers top-of-the-line manufacturing facilities with state of the art machinery. This plant will ensure that the southern and eastern indian markets are catered to.
According to G. Soundararajan, Vice-Chairman of the Rs.1,500 Crore global turnover company, the aggressive expansion plans are part of an overall business development strategy arising out of the company’s five-year vision. C.R.I. has been growing rapidly even in adverse market conditions and has achieved the status of the fastest growing pump company globally.
He further extended that, “diversification has taken us to becoming a complete pumping and plumbing solution provider. A wider product line translates to better market reach. An increased production capacity translates to increased market share. Currently, our Gujarat plant is also under expansion mode to cater to the increasing demand. In this expansion phase, Hosur and Gandhinagar plants put together will be achieving a total production capacity of 40,000 metric tonnes per annum. The infrastructure thus created in these plants can accommodate increased production in future. The launch of the new Hosur plant will take us a step closer to the targeted pipe market share of 10% in India.
“In most pumpset installations the cost of the pipes is much more than that of the pumpset. With a long presence in the pump industry, C.R.I. has a strong marketing network of 4,000
Dealers and nearly 10,000 retailers. Almost all our counters that sell our pumps, also deal in pipes. This is to our great advantage in capturing a sizeable market share in pipes. In addition,
C.R.I. also plans to create new distributor channels for promoting certain specific application pipes. C.R.I. is a well-recognized brand among plumbers, contractors, builders and EPC companies because of its five- decades of service to the fluid industry. Most of the pipe consumers also acknowledge C.R.I. as a quality player in the pumping industry. With this reputation, we can achieve our targets and become a prominent player in the pipe segment” the Vice-Chairman added.
According to Mr. Soundararajan, C.R.I. is investing about Rs.125 Crores in the Pipes business. The estimated market potential in India for non-metallic pipes is expected to be around a whooping Rs. 21,500 Crores. uPVC and CPVC pipes alone would contribute to around Rs.10,000 Crores, and it is into this niche high value segment the company is now venturing in the initial phase and eyeing to capture 10% market share in the years to come. The Indian pipe market CAGR of uPVC and CPVC pipes are estimated to be around 15% and 30% respectively. There are good export opportunities as well, C.R.I. Pipes are currently exported to many countries.
The favourable factors contributing to the demand of these pipes are National Water Mission, Government Plans on Infrastructural development, Industrial Corridor Development, Roads, Housing for All Plan, Smart city development, Satellite towns, Sewage treatment and much more. As these plans unfold, the construction and infrastructure industry is deemed to take a giant leap thus boosting the demand for plumbing, sewage and drainage pipes.
A rapid conversion is happening from metal pipes to plastic pipes as metal pipes are having many short- falls like corrosion and longevity issues. The uPVC pipes shall also be a good alternative to the conventional cement and iron pipes in under- ground sewage and drainage systems. Further the time taken for installing these pipes is three times less than conventional metal pipes.
uPVC pipes are used as riser (column) pipes, casing pipes, plumbing, sewage and drainage pipes. As column pipes, uPVC pipes are used extensively in place of metal pipes and HDPE Pipes for the pumping of ground water in open wells and bore wells. These pipes possess
higher tensile strength, UV and chemical resistance and energy efficiency. Further, the pipes are light weight and free from maintenance and corrosion.
As plumbing, sewage and drainage pipes, uPVC pipes are used mainly for the distribution of potable water and disposal of waste water from residential and commercial buildings, and industries. The pipes are non-toxic and lead-free that make them safe for potable water.
The uPVC column pipes are provided with patented Polymer Bonded Thread Sink (PBTS) locking system, another innovation from the C.R.I. R&D team. This unique locking system is used as a pipe coupler system to firmly couple the pipes.
The CPVC pipes are used for hot and cold water applications and also high pressure applications. In addition to this, due to their ability to handle up to a temperature of 200 degree F, the pipes are also used for transportation of chemical and hot corrosive fluids in process industries.
C.R.I. uPVC casing pipes are available from 115mm to 300mm diameter; uPVC plumbing pipes are available from 15mm to 150mm & CPVC plumbing pipes are available from 15mm to 100mm diameter, with all accessories like fittings and solvents.
